Please note: The facetted renderings use the same material settings (in terms of refraction and transparency) for the sake of uniformity of display. Some of the cuts were designed for different stone types--try using different materials settings--a little change can make a large difference in how the model renders. Check the "Materials" section of this website for more information.

We have had reports of a few people downloading the Zip files only to discover that there are no 'contents' in the archives. The reason appears to be due to the use of 'download accelerator' applications. If this occurs, temporarily disable such apps.

High Domed Cabachon

(113K ZIP --DXF file)

Generally used for opaque or near-opaque stones. Maximizes volume. One of the oldest known 'cuts' of the lapidary arts.

Low Domed Cabachon

(58K ZIP --DXF file)

Generally used for opaque or near-opaque stones. Often used for 'picture' stones where the surface decoration or pattern is important.

Round Brilliant

(4K ZIP --DXF file)

The 'modern' round cut for diamonds and other clear stones. Designed to maximize the optical properties of the stone.

Oval Brilliant

(3K ZIP --DXF file)

Variation of the standard round cut.

Marquise

(3K ZIP --DXF file)

Variation of the oval cut, with the ends evenly tapered to a point.

Pear

(3K ZIP --DXF file)

Variation combining the standard round cut with the point of a marquise cut.

Step Cut

(1K ZIP --DXF file)

Side facets are cut parallel to the girdle and evenly angled inward.

Emerald

(2K ZIP --DXF file)

Based on the step cut, the corners are faceted as well.
     

Poser 4 Prop-Round Brilliant

(128K ZIP --assorted files)

OBJ translation from DXF, UV mapping, and texturing for Poser 4 done by Robin Miller

A simple diamond prop in the brilliant cut with texture and reflection maps for Poser 4 and Poser 4 ProPack. Unzip to Poser main directory. Opens in prop library under 'ArtS'.

STEP - neutral CAD file format (can be opened by most NURBS based modeling programs)  
IGS- neutral CAD file format (can be opened by most NURBS based modeling programs)

3d PDF - 3d file anyone with the free Adobe Reader can view in 3d (no need for CAD software)

 

NOTE: On other gemstone pages you will see a notation in this column like:   RI=1.76

This refers to the suggested 'Refractive Index' for that stone cut. The renderings seen here are at a single uniform RI setting, and that may NOT be at the best setting for a given cut. Check the 'Materials-Refractive Index' page for more information.
